Problem

The Company has both stock/commodities and crypto- trading platforms. These platforms were created around professional traders. It means that app suites people with large trading deposits, who knew trading tools, technical analysis etc.

New product was aimed at “regular” audience, who has simple aim — to buy *crypto* for *n* dollars. These people often overlook historical coin prices, tend to make more hype-based decisions and want experience similar to “buying a pair of sneakers”.

For this task, team needed to get away from Pro-like experience and create simple one from ground up.

Insight

A client heard about crypto coins going +50%, +100% in a short period of time. He wants to be a part of it. He wants to invest money and see it grow. He needs simple solution

Market

A market for simple apps for trading crypto is growing. Companies there has different background and have their approaches in building such apps. We wanted to combine our expertise from pro-trading and best practices of our competitors and bring new experience with familiar mechanics.

Example (1)

Many apps include large CTA in footer so people won’t look deep inside the app for a button to trade a crypto.

Example (2)

New wave of crypto-platforms provide flexible widgets that can be used anywhere, as quick tool to buy / sell a coin

Wireframing

Together we’ve created an outline of features we’d love to have at MVP stage, defined product structure.

In terms of Design System, it helps to assess its scale and application scenarios.

Hypothesis

To make the System work it should include: Mix best practices with innovative, simple solutions; Be responsive; Create new components only if necessary

Creating a Design System

Having neccessary flows in mind, I’ve started creating basic components for a Design System like color pallette, typography and interactive elements (buttons, inputs, headers etc.)

To make System look consistent, I’ve started to combine basic elements in lo-fi design screens and identify repeating patterns. These patterns I’ve united in components of higher levels (e.g. widgets, date pickers, modal windows etc.). That’s how System evolved.

After reaching certain milestones together with team we’ve iterated on elements and created version 1 of the System.

Outcome

Together with a team we’ve united mobile and web with the same visual language, and created a system that flexible enough to serve company’s clients.
